Walk for Wildwood Information and FAQ
Friday, September 25 - Wednesday, September 30
The 2020 Walk for Wildwood might look a little different this year, but the difference your support will make in our community remains the same!
How does it work? Walk one day or all six! Go to a local park, walk down your street, or use a treadmill. Walk for 30 minutes or 30 miles -- just get active, celebrate Wildwood, and stay safe while social distancing and using a mask when necessary. See the Frequently Asked Questions/FAQ below the page break for more information!
Participate in this annual fundraising event at your own pace and connect with the Wildwood community virtually! Thanks to the generosity of people like you, Wildwood can turn the dreams of the people we support into reality. Create a personal fundraising page or start a team! FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Please contact events@wildwoodprograms.org with any additional questions or concerns.
Thanks for your support!
Why has the Walk for Wildwood format changed this year?
Due to safety regulations surrounding COVID-19 we are unable to host an in person event. While we would love to all be able to celebrate the Walk for Wildwood together at Cook Park this year, it is very important to us that we keep everyone safe and healthy.
So, what does “walking virtually” even mean?
Walking virtually means that YOU set the location, pace, and timing of your participation in the Walk for Wildwood. You pick the time (from Friday, September 25th through Wednesday, September 30th), the location (please social distance and wear a mask when appropriate) and how long, or far you’d like to Walk.
Do I have to register to participate?
Yes! The Walk for Wildwood serves as a community event, but also is an annual fundraising event. We rely on the generosity of our community partners and donors who support us through registration fees and other Walk fundraising initiatives. This year’s registration fee is $25, but if you or a family member has a financial barrier to participation, please contact the Foundation Office.
How do I register for the 2020 Walk for Wildwood?
1) Register online at www.firstgiving.com/wildwood or,
2) Complete the Registration Brochure and return it to the Foundation Office.
The Registration Brochure can be found for download on the firstgiving website, or call the Foundation at (518 )863-2318 to have one sent to you.
What is included with my $25 registration fee?
A 2020 Walk for Wildwood t-shirt (and mask if you elected to purchase one) is included with every registration fee. Proceeds from the Walk for Wildwood registration fees directly benefit the programs and people we support. We will be also offering a variety of fun and interactive activities like our Community Scavenger Hunt!
When is the registration deadline?
To guarantee your 2020 Walk t-shirt (and mask) for in person pick up, we ask that you take advantage of Early Bird Registration and sign up by Sunday, September 13th. The final deadline to participate is Wednesday, September 23rd.
How do I get my t-shirt/mask?
We strongly encourage you to pick up your 2020 Walk for Wildwood t-shirt at one of these times:
Friday September 24th: **Available to staff/people we support only** the Latham Parking Lot (street side), from 11am-1pm OR Curry Rd Parking Lot from 3pm-5pm
Saturday September 25th: **Available to community, including staff/people we support** the Curry Rd Parking Lot from 9am -11am OR Latham Parking Lot from 1pm- 3pm
Can I pick up a t-shirt/mask for someone else?
Yes! As long as they are registered!
I registered after September 14th. Will I get a t-shirt/mask?
Yes! We will have additional t-shirts for those who registered after the Early Bird Deadline available for in-person pick up. They are available on a limited first come, first served basis. If we do not have your size available we will order one for you and arrange pick up at a later date.
I registered for the Walk, but can’t make any of the pick up times. How do I get my t-shirt/mask?
No problem! You have 2 options:
1) Contact the Foundation Office at events@wildwoodprograms.org or (518)836-2318 to arrange for pick up.
2) Select the option to have your shirt shipped to you ($5 additional shipping fee) and we will send it out after the event.

How do I get a 2020 Walk for Wildwood Sweatshirt?
Individuals who raise over $250 through their personal fundraising pages, by collecting donations on behalf of Wildwood, or both by Wednesday, September 30th will receive a 2020 Walk for Wildwood sweatshirt. Once you reach $250 a sweatshirt will be ordered for you (in the same size you selected for your t-shirt) and a member of the Foundation Team will reach out to coordinate pick up/drop off or shipping.
Will the in-person walk be rescheduled?
We hope that we will be able to welcome you all back to the 2021 Walk for Wildwood at Cook Park again next year. We will continue to monitor state and local regulations and will make a decision as the date approaches.
How do I join the conversation on social media?
Join our Facebook Event! The event can be found at www.facebook.com/WildwoodPrograms. This event will be the virtual “hub” of this year’s Walk for Wildwood. Ask questions, comment on
peoples’ posts, share your art, and post photos from your completed scavenger hunt. Tell people about why you’re walking for Wildwood! We want people to come together as a community and cheer one another on as we all cross that virtual finish line.
How do I participate in the Community Scavenger Hunt?
The list for the Community Scavenger Hunt will be revealed at 8am on Friday, September 25! A PDF copy will be posted to our website's Event Page, and a copy of the list will also be posted to the Facebook event. Gather a team or compete as an individual to cross off all the items on the list during the Walk for Wildwood dates. Items on the list are not limited to one neighborhood/community in particular. Participate in fun challenges, get to know our sponsors, and compete for prizes! Finish the list? Let everyone know! Share photos from your hunt in the Walk for Wildwood Facebook Event.
I don’t want my photo on social media.
That’s okay! While signing the registration form allows Wildwood permission to use photos your submit on social media, that doesn’t mean we have to post them! If you choose to submit a photo to the events@wildwoodprograms.org email address, please make a note that you would not like it posted to our social media pages. If you are part of a team, please make sure your teammates are aware that you do not want photos of yourself posted on social media. We do not monitor our accounts 24/7 and cannot guarantee that someone outside the agency will not share a photo that includes you.
How do I access the Walk for Wildwood Playlist on Spotify? How do I suggest a song?
If you have the Spotify app, search for “Walk for Wildwood 2020.” The playlist is also available at this link. We will reshare the link on our Facebook event and via email closer to the event. Suggest songs when you register, or by commenting within the Facebook event. Don’t have social media? Don’t worry - reach out to us at events@wildwoodprograms.org to let us know your favorite walking songs via email!
How do I participate in the “Walk a Mile in My Shoes” Art Contest?
You can download a PDF copy of the Art Contest by clicking here! Get creative and color it in or decorate the page however you like! When you’re done, drop it off at our Latham location (1190 Troy-Schenectady Road, Building 1, Latham) or send a copy to events@wildwoodprograms.org (either use a scanner, or take a picture and attach it).
How do I know if I have won a prize or giveaway?
Winners will be contacted directly! Winners’ names may also be announced on social media. Please be sure to provide your most up to date contact information so that we will be able to get in touch with you should you win regarding pickup/dropoff of prizes. If you are sharing for a contest on social media, please make sure the settings are public - we need to know who to contact!
I don’t have social media-- can I still participate?
