When it gets cold out, we all want nothing more than to sit by a fire, drank some hot cocoa and relax. That is fine, but for how long? We all need to continue to be active during the winter and what better way to do so than with your loved ones.

Here are 5 things that can be done to stay active during these next few months with your loved ones.

  1. Go outside. Enjoy some fresh air, build a snowman or just simple go for a walk. Utilizing your local mall or grocery store to just walk around is an idea for the holiday break.
  2. Enjoy some indoor games. If you have a device that allows for some competitive fun with the family, enjoy that while having fun, and winning of course.
  3. Put on music and dance. During the bad weather, just getting up and dancing is a great way to stay active indoors.
  4. Utilize your local recreation center or join a gym. This gets you out of the house and into a space where there may be many different exercise options. Finding places that may have a pool and go swimming is also good on the body.
  5. Lastly, try something new like ice skating, skiing or sledding. Sledding is always a blast with family and friends by your side. If you’re on a budget, it’s also an activity that doesn’t break the bank.

 It’s ok to try new things in order to stay active. Plus, it gives the kids a chance to learn something they may have not tried before. Winter doesn’t have to be spent indoors as there are many other things that can be done outdoors, but the most important thing to remember is to have fun while staying active because you won’t want to keep doing an activity that wasn’t fun for you now would you?
