Therapeutic yoga is designed to focus on a particular population or diagnosis. By working through five areas or layers of the person’s being, the goal is to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life. We are very excited to be starting a therapeutic yoga class with the help of Family Support.

Michelle Singh, LMSW and RYT 200, recently completed 100 hours of Advanced Teacher of Therapeutic Yoga training at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Next summer she will complete 200 more hours to receive her certification in ATTY.

Michelle and Jennifer Doherty, graduate social work intern, will be facilitating a therapeutic yoga class for adults diagnosed with combined anxiety and autism. This will be a 10-week series in partnership with The Ciccotti Center in Colonie. The class will be held on Wednesday afternoons from 4 pm - 5 pm from November 28th - February 6th.

Family Support was able to purchase yoga mats, straps, blocks, blankets and cushions for the practitioners in the group.

We are very excited about this endeavor. If you would like to participate in a future therapeutic yoga series, please contact Michelle Singh at 518.640.3350.
