On a sunny day this past September, hundreds and hundreds of walkers laced up their sneakers and got ready to get moving for the 20th Walk for Wildwood. The Walk for Wildwood that started in 1998 as an idea of a few staff at Wildwood has know grown into an anticipated yearly event that raises important funds for Wildwood.
That small seed of an idea over 20 years ago has evolved from a road race consisting of 50 runners the first year, to a race with a community walk added in the second year into the present day walk event with almost 600 walkers and 34 teams! There are many participants and volunteers come back year after year for this family-friendly community event!
People from the community and all over the agency came together to re-connect and visit with “alumni” at Cook Park in Colonie. Families, friends, individuals, corporate partners and staff gathered to enjoy a morning of fun and really fresh air. Participants were entertained by the Wildwood WOW Band, able to visit the resource tables and pet therapy tent and finish the morning off with some healthy snacks. The Walk for Wildwood continues to be a wonderful, community-based event that brings everyone together for a little exercise and lots of fun.
It also raised over $70,000 for Wildwood!
